Fratelli Testa Institute Strengthens its European dimension: Erasmus+ Training focused on innovation and inclusion

The “Fratelli Testa” Institute of Nicosia continues to strengthen its European identity through new Erasmus+ mobility experiences, confirming its commitment to innovation, inclusion and the professional development of its teaching staff.

In December 2025, four teachers from the Institute took part in high-level international training courses within the KA120 consortium coordinated by the Regional School Office of Sicily (USR Sicilia) and supported in part by PNRR funds. These activities are part of a long-term strategy aimed at improving the quality of education and expanding the school’s cultural and educational outlook.

From 15 to 20 December 2025, teachers Rizzone, Vitale and D’Amico attended the course “Berlin’s Museums: An Experiential Learning Path”, organised by Europass Teacher Academy. The programme explored the educational potential of museums as spaces for non-formal and experiential learning, capable of fostering critical thinking, active participation and historical awareness. Through workshops, collaborative activities and guided visits to major Berlin museums, including the Neues Museum, the Jüdisches Museum and the Topography of Terror, participants examined key themes such as historical memory, European citizenship, heritage education and innovative teaching methodologies. Interaction with teachers from different European countries encouraged the exchange of best practices and strengthened the international dimension of teaching. At the same time, Professor Livoi participated in the course “Gifted Learners: Advanced Differentiation Strategies”, focused on designing inclusive learning activities for students with high cognitive potential. The programme included group work, case studies and presentations by teachers from Serbia and Croatia, offering practical tools for effective classroom management and talent development. The mobility also featured a significant cultural component, including an introduction to the city of Istanbul and a visit along the Bosphorus, further enriching the intercultural perspective of the experience. The skills and knowledge gained during these mobilities will have a direct impact on school life. They will support methodological innovation through active and experiential teaching practices, strengthen inclusion by addressing the needs of diverse learner profiles, including gifted students, and foster internationalisation through new contacts and future European collaborations. Moreover, they will help promote historical awareness, intercultural dialogue and active European citizenship among students. These mobilities also mark the conclusion of the three-year KA120 consortium experience, a pathway that has enabled the “Fratelli Testa” Institute to consolidate an open, inclusive and fully European educational vision.

The Headteacher, Dr Giambirtone, highlighted the strategic value of the Erasmus+ programme, stating that “through Erasmus+, our school continues to invest in teachers’ professional growth and in the continuous improvement of educational quality, with the aim of providing students with a modern, inclusive learning environment capable of meeting the challenges of today’s world”.
